Pay Your Vows

When we make a vow we are making a solemn promise.  God has always required from man the payment of his vows (Ecclesiastes 5:4-7) and to treat our promises flippantly is a sin.

Faithful men and women of the Old Testament kept their vows.  Among them are Abraham (Genesis 14), Jacob (Genesis 28), Samuel's mother (1 Samuel 1) and Jephthah (Judges 11).  Though Jephthah's vow was unwise, he kept it.

How strict are we in keeping our vows?  Are we good at keeping our marriage vows?  What about the promises we make to a friend or a brother?  Paul mentioned the "untrustworthy" as being among those who are "worthy of death" (Romans 1:31-32).

Those of us who have obeyed the gospel of Christ have made a vow unto God.  When you obeyed the gospel you said, in essence, "I will put my relationship with Jesus Christ ahead of all things."

God is faithful in keeping His promises.  Are we?
