OUT OF THE VALLEY

OUT OF THE VALLEY

Most of us, at one time or another, have been mired in a spiritual valley.  It would be nice if all of Christianity equaled the exaltation of Moses on Sinai, Elijah on Carmel, or Jesus on the mount of transfiguration.  But the fact is, sometimes the valley must be traversed as well.  Are you in a spiritual valley?  You don’t have to stay there!  To get moving in your spiritual life…

1)      Your desire for God must be real.  To merely have a religion is to be destined for the valley.  To have a relationship with your Father, to truly “know Him,” is to have motivation to love, serve and obey unto eternal life (John 17:3).

2)      Put away sin and every non-Christ like habit.  Simply put, sin must not be allowed to reign any more (Romans 6:12).  If it damages your relationship with God, your influence for good or your ability to do God’s work, then it must be “put to death” (Colossians 3:5).

3)      Cultivate spiritual habits.  “As thy days, so shall thy strength be,” (Deuteronomy 33:25).  Every time we practice a trait of godliness, regardless of what it may be, we reinforce that tendency and make it easier to do right in the future.

4)      Focus your heart on Jesus.  Remember that our Lord is to be the focal point of our devotion – Not man, preachers, papers, tradition, family members, etc.  To be conformed to His image is our highest aspiration (Romans 8:29).
